Chapultepec Forest Scenic train
Mexico City (2022)
Invitational contest

The proposal for the comprehensive rehabilitation of the scenic train in  Chapultepec Forest is based on making visible three phenomena that come together in this space and their interrelation:

CYCLES. The presence and appreciation of the cycles of flora and fauna from the passing of the seasons, the natural cycle of water and its relationship with the natural and built context of the forest, as well as the cycle of the train route. MOTION. The circulation of the train, the path of rainwater from its collection, filtration, storage to reuse, and the movement of people through the entire forest reflect movement.

TIME. The passage of time is perceived in the distinction of the course of the day, in the change of seasons during the year, which is visible through the variation in flora and the migration of birds, rainfall and solar radiation, and in architecture that is a reflection of the historical, cultural and technological moment of a certain era.

The proposal for the rehabilitation of the scenic train of the Chapultepec Forest aims to demonstrate, appreciate and emphasize these phenomena through a set of interrelated strategies and actions of an environmental, landscape and architectural nature, which are consistent with the objectives of preserving and enhance the environmental, cultural, historical and social value that the Chapultepec Forest represents not only for Mexico City, but for the entire country.
