Coatepec park
Mexicali, Baja California (2023)
The proposal for the comprehensive rehabilitation of Coatepec park is developed following these premises: create a natural refuge of shade and freshness to rest from the heat and disconnect from a hostile urban environment, favor permeability, connectivity and universal accessibility within and through the park and bring the best possible architectural quality to an area with great urban deficiencies.
The proposal is based on rhomboidal and rectangular shapes with rounded corners of different sizes that organize the architectural program and offer a consistent design language. Similarly, two walkways, the first transversal and the second longitudinally, become the main circulations within the complex, the first of them being a large pedestrian passage from end to end, flanked by palo verde trees to create a sensation of a natural tunnel that offers shade and shelter.
A rhomboidal-shaped jogging path borders the park and within it there are three rectangular spaces confined on some of its sides by concrete benches, the first of these intended for physical activities such as calisthenics, the second for children's playground and a sandbox for small children, and the third, which is pre-existing, functions as a sports facility.
