Los Andes park
Tijuana, Baja California (2023)

The proposal to redesign Los Andes park is  based on the following premises: respect the existing topography, take advantage of the two present platforms (court and children's playground), promote permeability, connectivity and universal accessibility within and through the park, create a haven of freshness, serenity and nature in a hostile urban environment, and bring the best possible architectural quality to an area with great urban deficiencies.

In this way, the proposal is defined on three levels taking advantage of the topography and existing platforms: the lower level for the multifunctional court, the intermediate level for playground, physical activity and a building intended for a youth development center, and the highest level for a platform, viewpoint and recreational area that is at the same time the roof of the building.

In layout, the project is resolved from a trapezoidal outline within which the main program of the park is inscribed (court, playground, physical activity area, development center and viewpoint), as well as a set of straight walkways arranged longitudinally and transversally to the park. In some cases these walkways become straight ramps in a diagonal arrangement that cut the slopes to allow accessibility within the park as a whole. The trapezoidal shapes are repeated in the vertical plane, with the presence of some slopes at the ends of the first two platforms, as well as in the perimeter fence of the sports field, thus generating a consistent design language through the different elements that make up the space.
