Zocalo of Puebla renovation
Puebla, Puebla (2020)
Over time, the layout of the Zocalo (main square) of Puebla has undergone several modifications. In addition to this, the presence of obsolete street furniture and different physical obstacles can be observed that have deteriorated the plinth over time. The quality of the living areas represents an opportunity to improve their relationship with both the pedestrian walkways and the green contemplation areas, giving greater legibility and quality to the living areas.
The project proposes a comprehensive renovation of the plinth and its surroundings, aligning with the mobility objectives for the historic center of the city and the urban image proposed and developed in the management plan of the historic center.
The project proposes a comprehensive intervention that is respectful and in accordance with the Management Plan of the Historic Center of Puebla. Two different areas of intervention are distinguished, thus defining the use and vocation of the space: El Zócalo (Plaza Mayor), and the streets surrounding it (September 16, Reforma, 3 Pte., and 2 Sur)
